Saints Stumble

With one week left in the regular season, the Saints looked to cruise into the playoffs with the top seed in the Modern Day Division. They hosted the lowly Templers who had only notched one win against a non-playoff worthy team. The game started off as everyone expected. The Saints rolled out to a 13 point lead middway through the second quarter (26-13). They were doubling up the Templers and dominating every category, but someone forgot to tell the Templers that they were out of the game. Down 26-15 to start the second half, Hampton Sorphan took charge. He pulled the Templers within six points off back to back buckets.

The Templers would pull the lead to within one point in the third quarter after a 12-2 run. It looked like the Saints would pull away again after a Ragen three pointer, but the Templers kept fighting. They took the lead for the first time with three minutes left in the game. With two minutes, Sorphan calmly sank two free throws to give the Templers a three point lead and then stole the ball on the last possession to seal the 39-36 win.

Fumanchu, for the Saints, struggled scoging a season low 4 points. Early in the season, he was one of the top five leading scorers.

Sorphan, PG for the Templers, scored a game high 14 points, and also added 3 rebounds, 2 Assists, and 2 Steals. After the game he was asked about how big this win was, " This is a huge win for our team. So many times this season, we have found ourselves on the opposite end in close games. It is great to know that our team fought even though we didn't have a playoff berth waiting for us. This was our chance to come out and show what we can do for the last time this season. Hopefully, we can let this win propel us this off-season and into next season."
