Ugly, but sweet!

BYU has not played its best basketball in its past few games, yet it has notched two very nice conference wins this past week. After taking punishing blows from Wake Forest (lost by 17), and UNLV (lost by 29). They have beaten their rival on the road, and beaten the conference leading Aztecs.

If you would have told coach Rose that his team would shoot 34 percent from the field, and under 17 percent from the 3 point arc, he would probably predict losses in both games, but the cougars are learning how to win the close games. This could be promising for this years ball club. If this team can win these games with poor shooting, what will happen when they get hot?

BYU is now 3-1 in conference tied for second with TCU and UNLV. The cougars, who were picked as the preseason MWC conference favorites, are still very much in the race to win the conference this year with plenty of basketball to play.

BYU will face another stiff challenge as they will court New Mexico in on Saturday. The Lobos defeated the Utes at home in overtime on Tuesday. A win would establish BYU as one of the top contenders in the league. New Mexico (3-2) has the best overall record in the MWC. They have been quite the suprise, and could pose a threat to BYU's home court winning streak, which is currently at 41.
