The Final Round

Coaches have put on their boxing gloves for the final round of their 2008 recruiting classes. They have called, visited, contacted, and recontacted their recruits for the 2008 campaign. Some teams have few positions left to fill, while others have saved scholarships to round up some decent left overs. For BYU, they have just a few spots left, and are battling for some very fine recruits.

A few of the top players on BYU's list are down to their final two weeks before they will need to declare which school they will spend their next 4 years playing football.

O'neill, Stevens, Te'o, and Kaveinga, are highly sought after recruits:

O'neill confirmed today that he will commit to play for the cougars. It came down to Purdue and BYU. The question now remains, will he stay true, and be able to pass his tests

Te'o committed months ago, but after many talks and rumors of him visiting Utah, he reconfirmed his commitment to play for BYU. Te'o could battle for the safetly spot this fall.

Kaveinga, who recently changed his commitment from UCLA to BYU, has been contacted again by USC's coach Carrol. Previously, Carrol said that he wouldn't honor his scholarship if he went on a two year LDS mission, but has recently said he would make an exception for him. This may prompt him to change his mind to play for the Trojans. The cougars could use this physically gifted linebacker after losing two this past graduation.

Stevens has not yet decided where he will play. He has visited both BYU and USC and will have the next couple of weeks to make his decision. He is a highly touted center from California.
Coaches will pound it out on the road as they strive to finalize commitments before the final day in early February. However, even though they get the commitments from these kids now, anything can happen. After much anticipation, coaches will get their relief as they get the faxed written commitments to play for their team.

I was happy to see your new post! It is so weird to me though that the football teams are finalized so far in advance of the next season. I guess it's really not that far away though! Go BYU! Hopefully we have another great season.
