The new ZBA basketball league has just announced that it's first games will begin in the coming week. The players and coaches are anticipating the new season. Teancum, one of the new leaders of the ZBA league, had this to say, "We are anxious to get going. It has been way to long since many of these guys have played a league game, so they are excited to buckle up their shoes and get on the court! We anticipate some exciting things to happen this season!"
The league will be made up of two stakes: The Modern Day Division, and the Ancient Day Division . Each of these Divisions have a total of six teams. Each team will play each team in their respective division along with three games from the other division. All teams will play a total of eight games (5 in division- 3 out of divistion). The playoff format has not been officially announced, but it is expected that at least 8 teams (4 from each division) will be included in a regional tournament to decide the champion!
Many have wondered if this league is church sponsored. It is not, but the founder (Nephi Jackson) has decided to use it specifically as a private league to develop talent that the church contains. His belief is that there are many members of the church that will gain great experience and benefits from playing in this league, perhaps even move on to the college or professional ranks. Each player must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They must be in full fellowship, and have good standing. Jackson has a great amount of respect for these young men, and has given them a great opportunity!
Let the games begin!
